MONISM Studio

The Studio

The person behind
the system.

Founder & Creative Director

MONISM began with a simple belief: creative work becomes stronger when nothing is treated as separate.

My practice moves between identity, visual direction, digital, culture, and experience — often crossing disciplines rather than staying inside one.

I've always been interested in the space between things: where design becomes culture, where technology becomes expression, where a symbol becomes something people can recognize, remember, and feel.

MONISM is an attempt to bring those interests into one place.

None of that is a change of direction. Campaign work teaches you quickly where a brand is actually judged.

A brand is judged where people meet it — a feed, a room, a floor plan.Identity is where that starts.

Before MONISM

Nine years, since 2017.

Campaign and event work across Phnom Penh companies, alongside identity and digital work under my own name.

MONISM did not begin from a blank page. It is the continuation of work I have been doing across different environments, disciplines, and kinds of problems.

Fourteen clients.

Not a studio built around a single discipline.
A practice built around a way of seeing.

Frequently asked

One person. MONISM is led by Khobi Tang, founder and creative director.

The “we” on this site means the studio itself, not a room of people. Projects bring in trusted specialists when a job calls for them — photographers, a second developer, printers and production partners.

The same person, from the first brief through direction, design, development and production. Nothing is handed down to a junior after the pitch.

The person you brief is the person accountable for what gets made.

No — and that is deliberate.

The studio is built around direction, not around collecting every discipline under one roof. When a project needs another specialist, the right person comes into the system and the direction stays in one place.

Printers are in almost every identity project. A client handing artwork to a printer usually does not know what the printer will ask for — the bleed, the colour space, the minimum size a mark stays legible at. I do, and handling that is part of the job.

Because the things people experience as separate usually are not.

Nobody meets a brand through its logo. They meet it in a campaign, a website, a room, an object, a conversation, and in production details nobody was supposed to notice. The work runs across those points of contact so the idea underneath stays the same one.

Not exactly.

Identity is usually where the work starts, but the practice carries on into visual direction, digital, culture and experience.

The goal is not to make an identity. It is to work out what that identity has to become once it is out in the world.

Monism is the idea that things we perceive as separate belong to one underlying whole.

Applied to creative work: identity, technology, culture, business and experience are different disciplines, and they act on each other constantly.

Everything is connected.

Next Phase

A studio is where
this begins.

MONISM Studio is the first expression of a larger system — a collective of houses built on one creative philosophy. Each phase carries the same idea into a different part of life.
